Liquid Penetrant

This technique is used to detect surface imperfections of nonporous materials. Dye is applied to the surface and is drawn by capillary forces into openings. When all remaining dye has been removed from the surface of the part then a developer is applied in order to make the flaws visible by extracting the dye from the openings to the developer.

This technique has several levels of sensitivity and can be applied in different methods based on factors such as quantity and sensitivity required.
